Blues Moon hiatus ends Jan. 5 at 6

I appreciate the understanding of listeners and fans about the absence of the Blues Moon radio airwaves these past two Tuesdays -- although it is not abnormal for me to take a hiatus during the winter holidays, this set of absences was caused by the unexpected illness and death of two dear friends' parents.

My heart goes out to my friends during this time of mourning.

The Blues Moon will resume on Jan. 5, 2010. I wish all of you a great new year - prosperous (because that is a good thing, despite what some think - if you don't believe me, just make more than you need, give away the excess to a good cause* and see how much better the world is); healthful and happy.

And although I see 2010 as being better than 2008 or 2009, I think I'll see things more clearly in 20/20!

All good things to you and yours!
Best,
clair delune and RawkyDawg, Blues Defender

*Rocky's favorite charity (and by that same token, mine too) is SQ Rescue, the German Shepherd (and other breed) foundation that brought my formerly starved and beaten sweetheart of a pup home to live with me. SQ Rescue tells me they are unable to take in any more dogs until they can raise more funds because so many dogs they had adopted out have been returned because of the economy... it's truly sad. I'm donating and hope you will, too. But you choose one you like if you have one near you... or another type of charity altogether.

Kinks tribute show for WUSC fundraiser to have guest hosts tonight

Thanks to my "Celluloid Heroes" who are guest hosting tonight on The Blues Moon radio show.

Tonight's fundraiser is designed to pay tribute to early R&B, Rock artists, The Kinks, and of course to raise funds for the station.

Heart breaking - had really wanted to do this show. I'll be back next week, hopefully... just a bit under this foul weather... Cannot be helped... so please give what you can to raise much-needed funds for the station - every bit counts. Click on the heading of this post to go to the online donation site - if you get a chance, please mention that you listen to the Blues Moon.

Many thanks for all the well-wishes! Y'all are the best!

Missing: Blues Moon radio show tonight

Sorry I had to miss the show, folks... had an accident earlier in the week that I'm recovering from.

Should be back in the DJ seat next Tuesday... in the meantime, if you have the chance to support the Bull Durham Blues Festival this coming weekend, please do... it promises to be a good one.

The Web site is up for the Downhome Blues Festival in Camden, SC (USA) the first Th/F/Sat of October, so check it out at www.bluesbash.com/camden.

If you are in Columbia SC on Friday, check out Doc's BBQ down by the stadium for the Flat Out Strangers early performance (starting about six p.m.). Entertaining AND great musicianship.

More soon... clair delune

Station is closed - no Blues Moon Radio tonight - Aug. 11, 2009

No show tonight...
I'm informed that all station personnel have to leave because the carpets are being cleaned.

Wot? There's no carpeting in the Blues!

Well, apparently I have the:
"Got no show, but got some clean carpets to show for it... wait for it... here it comes... you ready?... Blues!"

Bues Moon update on Cora and Nappy's music room

Last week's absence in order to trek up to Newberry County to present to the zoning commission was worthwhile even though I missed doing the show.

I was impressed with the number of people who came to support Cora's attempt to keep a music room open on her property, the same way she and Nappy Brown always had. Once our favorite pastor explained the heart behind the effort, the commissioner of the zoning board provided some thoughtful and insightful ways to rethink the issue and still remain in compliance. All seemed to win.

When Michael Bedenbaugh, the commissioner, asked who might be speaking against the plea, the pastor said "we have lots of supporters who want to speak for her variance," to which the commissioner responded wryly, "Don't I know that"... and said it probably wouldn't be necessary. It all got worked out without us having to say a word. Just the threat of having to hear me speak got the entire thing pushed through - I'll have to tuck that little tidbit away for future needs.

"Don't make me use my voice! I'll speak, I swear I will!" ha!

Seriously, I told sweet Miss Cora that I've never been so pleased not to be needed in my life. :)

I know Nappy must be lighting heaven up with his big smile about Cora keeping his legacy alive for the next generation and is pleased about how many people love and care for her - but you get back what you give out in this world, and Cora gives a lot of love to a lot of people who need it. What a warm-hearted person - we could use more like her.

Kudos to the Zoning Commission of Newberry County SC - nice little town with some broad-minded people. Not THAT kind of broad. People, please. Keep it clean. This ain't no blues show!!! Oh, wait. It kind of is.

Thanks also to Tut, Ruthe & Rip and Harry for coming and to Aida, Henri and Sam for good advice.

Cora, you are the best and we love you...

Keep a good thought... clair delune

Blues Moon with Clair DeLune update

Spring Break is here and I'm not. I had intended to do the show, but got caught with a project at work that needed my attention and I won't be able to make it to the station tonight.

But, the good news is that I promise to be back next week with a wonderful show - featuring a lot of the distaff side of Blues since it is Women's History month (or Her-story month?).

Best laid plans...

Well, I apologize.

I went to all that prep and stayed up notifying my entire e-mail list all around the globe about the Tribute to Dad... and WHAT? I arrive at the station to find the Web stream is down.

Down? Why, it's never down. (ummm... almost never).

If I didn't know better, I'd think Dad was razzin' me from above. He never did like my kind of music, so he's probably ditching my show and hoping I'll sub out a tribute to him in the old Swing music. Maybe I will, soon...

... if he'll stop messin' with the Web stream...

I'm jes sayin'...

Again, my apologies for the big tease for a no show (literally).

Next week I'll try again, but our show times for the Fall have yet to be announced. I'll post the time here as soon as I know and I'm saving the show for next time.

Until then, maybe God will ask Benny Goodman to play for my Dad and Mom... that dreamy music they loved.

Thanks to everyone who has written to send condolences and love. My heart is full. Good friends, all.

... don't just feel love... express it...

Special Edition of the Blues Moon for Daddy

I try to make every edition of the Blues Moon personal because the Blues is personal music and there is always someone I'm thinking of, or some event, when I plan my show each week.

But this edition of the Blues Moon is very personal - and sad - because it is the tribute to my father that I tried to make last week, right after he died, but just couldn't. And this week I have jammed enough songs in to last the entire show, except for required station IDs, because I don't think I'll be able to announce the songs.

So, instead of waiting until after the show to post the songs, as I usually do, I'll post them a day ahead and you all can follow along as the songs are played.

This week the songs will be from top to bottom (usually they list from the bottom to the top). Since I'm not grabbing them from the Internet log, they'll read in order from the top to the bottom. Confused yet? Welcome to my neighborhood.

My Dad was amazing. Brave, stalwart, honest, brilliant and accomplished. Not always the sweetest person, but he had a real soft spot for a lot of things (his granddaughter, dogs and sometimes -- when I didn't drive him crazy -- even me!) and the last couple of decades we spent getting real close; ending with a period of time where I took care of him a great deal of the time and that brought us even closer.

I thank God that my brother and I were able to be there on his last day on this earth. I miss him so much and will live my life in tribute to him and my beloved Mother, who was so sweet and dear.

Dad did so much that I'll never expect to measure up to his accomplishments, but I'll work hard to try to as a tribute to him. I promised him I would not be sad always.

Thanks for listening. Tell the ones you love how you feel. You will never regret it.

Where Clair? She ain't on the air!

Sorry to have missed two shows in a row, but life conspires sometimes - and if it didn't, well, we'd never have "the blues" and we'd miss out on a great genre of music, wouldn't we?

See? Now I've cheered you up and you don't need me anymore.

Last week I was out because I wanted to attend the funeral of a friend's father - she's been through a lot and we've kept each other buoyed during our fathers' illnesses.

And this week, work went over and I just couldn't get to the station in time. As ever, I must look at the bright side: how fortunate I am to work at what I love - writing - and to also work at a radio station that allows me the chance to play music I love for people I know and those I have yet to meet.

Please tune in again next week... I promise I'll be there! I'll have a Blues tribute to "Dub"... much love to his family and all my sympathy.
