SC native, Wes Mackey, guest hosts Blues Moon Radio 11/29/16

Jazz and Blues artist, Wes Mackey, who has lived in Vancouver, Canada, for many years returns to his roots, and pays a visit to Columbia while in the Palmetto State.


He'll be at a meet and greet at Papa Jazz Record Shoppe on Greene Street in Columbia from 4-5 p.m., then guest host a Blues Moon Radio show featuring all Carolina musicians (98 percent from South Carolina).

Then we're treating him and his guest to some lovely downhome cooking.

  Alejandro is on tour in support of his new album “Burn Something Beautiful.” He was named the "'No Depression' Artist of the Decade" in 1998 and received Americana Music’s “Lifetime Achievement Award” in 2006. A new local group “Grand Republic” with former band mates of Danielle Howle will open.

 12/10: The new Blue Moon Concert series (formerly UU Coffeehouse) will open its four-concert series on Saturday, Dec. 10th featuring Johnny Irion with Tim Bluhm.  Also on the bill that night will be Columbia's Prairie Willows. The location is the UU Church at Woodrow and Heyward. 803-200-2824 - you can reserve tickets there (steep student discount).

WUSC-FM puts the FUN into Fundraisers - Money Honey playlist

Welcome to Blues Moon Radio!

For the next month or so, WUSC is in its semi-annual fundraiser. As an educational radio station we are challenged with raising a percentage of our funding each year, and we rely on listener support. So, let's get the money rolling and - while we are at it - let's have some fun! And we'll get you some nice surprises for your much-needed support.

The station goal is to raise $7K in the next month, and Blues Moon Radio would like to make a thousand of that happen. If everyone on my friends list on FB donated "four bits" that would do it. But not everyone can give, so some - who can give more freely - will be HEROIC!

As an extra-special way to thank y'all for your support, in addition to the giveaways the station offers, I am offering a fine art poster of "A Carolina Bluesman," painted by Barbara Howell to the top five donors (donation of $50 or more to qualify) who notate Blues Moon Radio as their reason for donation to WUSC.

Welcoming local artists Alien Carnival live on Tuesday, May 7, 2016 to Blues Moon Radio

We have special guests from the local band, Alien Carnival, appearing live on Tuesday, May 7, 2016 to Blues Moon Radio, so we will welcome them and talk about their influences, including Carolina ones like Josh White.

This Tuesday Blues Moon Radio will celebrate three things:

1) Mac Arnold's 72nd birthday (June 30). Mac is from the Upstate of South Carolina but has played all ovr the country and has shared a stage with many a Blues legend on his way to becoming one himself. Hear him talk about his early years in the same band with James Brown; being a part of the formation and production of Soul Train; playing in Chicago with Muddy Waters and Howlin' Wolf, among many others; and probably most importantly to Mac, playing with Plate Full O'Blues, living in the country, fishing, growing his own food and opening his new restaurant, Mac Arnold's Blues Restaurant at 1237 Pendleton in Greenville,S.C.

2) RockyDawg, Blues Defender's birthday is July 1st, so - as co-host - he has selected quite a few of his favorite dog songs, including Drink Small, the Blues Doctor's Coon Dog Blues. A-Roo-Roo-Roo to all of Yoo Yoo Yoo from our beloved mascot, co-host and source of inspiration and happiness.

3) The actual (and correct this time... a little oopsie on the math last year) start of our Silver Anniversary Celebration. We will celebrate all year long and play the very best in Blues and make efforts to have a wonderful array of artists represented through their music and interviews.
