Muddy Waters and Leonard Chess Tribute Oct. 9, 2012

As an educational station, WUSC tries to bring you music you might not be aware of... but every Blues Moon, I find a reason to go all Chess on ya. Here is a bit of history that prompts me to spend some in-depth time at Chess Records this Tuesday. It cannot help but be a fantastic show - all thanks to the artists, none due to me. Guaranteed to be one you Chicago Blues fans and Blues-Rock fans will want to mark your calendars for... Blues Moon Radio thanks you!

Artist(s) of the week for Tuesday, Oct. 9 from 6-8 p.m. ET (-5 GMT - and yes, we stream around the world as well as broadcast and HD cast at WUSC-FM 90.5 and HD1 Columbia (S.C.): Muddy Waters and his Chess Records pals... in Mid-October 1969, Muddy was involved in a terrible head-on automobile collision that killed his driver and left him hospitalized for two months; a week later, Leonard Chess - just after selling Chess Records - suffered a heart attack behind the wheel and died in the resulting crash.

Here is a site with an excerpt of a Chess Biography:

We will pay tribute to the wondrous contributions of the artists at that amazing set of labels, with special attention to McKinley Morganfield himself - and many of his label-mates and band-mates.

Tune in to Blues Moon Radio's stream at WUSC-FM www.wusc.sc.edu for a tour de force of Chess music. Tuesday, Oct. 9 from 6-8 p.m. E.T. (-5 GMT - and yes, we stream around the world as well as broadcast and HD cast at WUSC-FM 90.5 and HD1 Columbia S.C.).

And please ... drive defensively - work hard to become a type B driver... this is one time in life you don't want to be a A.

Trust me, dear hearts. "Mama" is right about this.

Check back... more to come!
Clair DeLune and RockyDawg, Blues Defender!
