Blues concert info

Information on Blues concerts and appearances from our friend Gary Erwin (aka: Shrimp City Slim). Gary is reknowned for the wonderful Blues he brings to S.C. - he truly works around the clock to keep the Blues alive and vibrant... I'm clipping in his newsletter here:

Blues fans:
Thanks to everyone for helping make this year's Piccolo Spoleto Homegrown Blues Series such a roaring success. We had great attendance at most of the shows - "Early Bird Blues" (happy hours) at Mad River Bar & Grill; "Blues on the Dock" at Bowens Island, and "Triple Dose Blues" at A Dough Re Mi Pizza. Next year's festival is scheduled for May 21-June 6 so mark your calendar now. www.piccolospoleto.com

WANDA JOHNSON on Living Blues Readers' Poll ballot - PLEASE VOTE!

Congratulations to South Carolina's WANDA JOHNSON who has landed a nomination under the category of "Blues Artist of the Year" (Female").

Thanks in advance to everyone who casts their vote at www.livingblues.com. Votes must be received by July 5 so please don't delay.

While you're at it, why not WRITE IN Wanda's brilliant CD "Hold What You Got" (2008, Erwin Music) in category of "Best Blues Album of 2008 (New Recordings)"?

And lest we forget South Carolina's blues patron saint, DRINK SMALL... he would be a perfect WRITE IN in categories of

"Most Outstanding Blues Singer"
"Most Outstanding Musician (Guitar)"

His "Trying to Survive at 75" (2008, Bishopville Records) is also a strong contender for "Best Album..." category.

"CIRCULAR BLUES UNPLUGGED"
The acoustic/traditional blues concert series for the listening audience proudly presents
ROBERT LIGHTHOUSE
Sunday, June 21, 7 pm
Circular Church, 150 Meeting St., downtown Charleston, SC
$10 ticket at the door
Artist: www.robertlighthouse.com
Venue: www.circularchurch.org
One of our favorite solo artists, Robert Palinic aka Lighthouse hails
originally from Sweden, but has spent most of his adult life traversing
the American South. Performing on guitar, harp-in-the-rack and vocals,
Lighthouse channels the raw Mississippi blues of Dr. Isaiah Ross, Robert
Johnson, (plantation-period) Muddy Waters, and others. A true original,
Robert Lighthouse never disappoints with his soulful and deep personal approach to the downhome blues. Very highly recommended.
PS: Robert's latest CD "Democracy Boulevard" was produced by Kevin
McKendree (who also plays keys on the CD) of Delbert McClinton's band.

Coming to "Circular Blues Unplugged":
Sunday, July 5: VERONIKA JACKSON
Sunday, August 16: DRINK SMALL
and in the fall: TAD WALTERS, PAUL GEREMIA, MICHAEL PICKETT,
JUKE JOINT JOHNNY & DREW BALDWIN.
