Wrapping up 2016 with a holiday bow Tuesday, 12/6/16

We'll be wrapping up 2016 on Blues Moon Radio with a holiday bow Tuesday, 12/6/16 from 6-8 p.m.

It's the end of another wonderfully bluesy year at Blues Moon Radio, and Clair DeLune and RockyDawg-BluesDefender would like to take this opportunity to write you this note of thanks for tuning in this year!

We've got a very special Bluesiday Special Tuesday, December 6th. We've stuffed an array of Blues and Roots songs in our holiday sack that fall into sets of happy versus sad, melancholy versus swinging, "reason for the season" versus blasphemous and we think it makes a wonderfully aberrant mix that you are unlikely to hear elsewhere around the "dial," so we hope you will tune in.

In our local music scene, we lament two events today - the hospitalization of one of our preeminent keyboardists, to whom we wish a rapid and complete recovery.

Joanie and Parker Connor
In even sadder news, we lost a longtime friend and lead singer featured in South Carolina Blues, the strikingly beautiful Joanie Connor, of Joanie and Friends, who passed away overnight after an extremely arduous and brave fight over a very long period against a very vicious illness.

Our love goes out to her family and legions of friends, with Joanie's angel wings gently wrapping around her devoted husband, Parker Connor, who was truly her knight in shining armor.

Rest in peace, Joanie. Always in our hearts.

2016 saw the loss of so many of our beloved performers that our show today is dedicated to all those who have left us during this tumultuous year.

Our holiday playlist:

Our Word of Mouth Artist of the Week is Damon Fowler, with 28 Degrees, because it is going to snap from 70s to a low of 20 this weekend. Believe, me, nobody - especially your toasty-weather-lovin' DJ - loves a snap that hard. Bronchitis here we come! Stay well, my dears.

We also want to remind you that there are some great concerts coming your way:

Johnny Irion (Sat. Dec. 10th)
Jack Williams (Sat. Jan. 7th)

Both will appear at the UU Coffeehouse presented by Blue Moon Concerts.
Tickets and info for those are available via Facebook:
https://www.facebook.com/UUCoffeehouse/

And please remember that your gift giving is easy for music lovers - www.papajazz.com has all your music needs and signed copies of my photographic essay, South Carolina Blues. If they sell out, or you live far away, you can find it at https://www.arcadiapublishing.com/9781467114721/South-Carolina-Blues

After this holiday show, Blues Moon Radio will be on winter hiatus until Tuesday, Jan. 10 - see you then or in the meantime, on Facebook!

May your days be merry and bright!

An art poster (11x/17) of the front cover of "South Carolina Blues" is available for sale by your host, Clair DeLune.

Copies of the book, South Carolina Blues are available from the publisher, and wherever books are sold - in Columbia, signed copies are available from our favorite record shop, Papa Jazz on Greene Street for the cover price of $22 plus tax. And, as always, mail order signed first-editions are available from the author directly by sending a check or money order for $28 dollars to Clair DeLune at POB 5591 Columbia, SC, 29250; which includes price of book, tax and $4 S/H. Please indicate to whom you would like the book inscribed (please print clearly). A perfect gift for any Sandlapper, or music or history buff - or all three!

The print is available for $25, including postage and handling in the continental U.S.

As always we thank our underwriters, who help bring great music to the Midlands, because we could not imagine our show without their input and support:  Papa Jazz Record Shoppe; California Republic Stand Up Paddleboards in Leesville near Lake Murray (closed for the season); and Word of Mouth Productions. You can link to these orgs by clicking on the visuals...
