Blues Moon Radio Playlist Oct. 18, 2011 - Blues fests and Bday festivities!

Good evening, Blues Lovers!

Tonight we are going to play music from artists who will be performing at the Columbia Blues Festival this Saturday, Oct. 22 (see blog post below for details and links).

Then we'll close out the second hour with the second half of October's birthdays. Lots of great music - much of which has yet to be heard on WUSC and Blues Moon Radio before (some are repeats, but I hope not within the past five years - we aim to bring you fresh rosters each week).

Headlining the Columbia Blues Fest this year is Leo Kottke, who tells wonderful tales with his dextrous fingers. He has a song called June Bug and I have a friend, who happens to be small and furry and meows, by that name.  So, you won't mind if - in my mind - we dediCATe the festival to her, will you? I KNEW y'all would understand. Even RockyDawg loves June Bug!

Playlist for Oct. 18, 2011:

Leo Kottke - June Bug b/w The Last Steam Engine Train b/w Sweet Louise
Randall Bramlett (with Geoff Achison) - See Through Me b/w Get In Get Out
Toni Spearman - INTV (from earlier this year) followed by Let the Good Times Roll b/w Boogie at Stokie's
Wanda Johnson - Natural Resource b/w It's So Nice to Have Somebody

We have some unnreleased material from the Mobro's to debut - I'm told they are a band to watch!

October birthdays (15th through 31st - boo! Did I ssssscare you?)

We will feature a cut or two from Bernie Pearl's newest CD, Right Side of the Blues in honor of his birthday! So nice to be in touch with you, Bernie - and to find your birthday in my calendar of Blues greats! Synchronicity is sterling!

Bernie Pearl - Holow Log Blues b/w Outside Boogie from Right Side of the Blues CD

Big Joe Williams - Annie Mae
Boogie Woogie Red - Viper Song
Chuck Berry - Deep Feeling
Doctor Ross - I'm a Mannish Boy
Speckled Red - INTV b/w the Dirty Dozens
Boozoo Chavis - Uncle Bud

We'll finish out with new music from Jeff Gates (SC fella!)
Jeff Gates - Wanted you too much - You Make Me

Carry over to next week... more birthdays and Halloween music! :) Yes, there is Halloween Blues!

Sonny Terry - Rock Me Mama
Willie Mabon - Seventh Son
Jimmy Dawkins - Chitlins Con Carne
Tom Ball (and Kenny Sultan) - Who Drank My Beer
Sam "The Man" Taylor - Oo-Wee

Blues Moon Radio highlights Blues Fests on the horizon in South Carolina

This Saturday! The 17th Annual Columbia (SC) Blues Festival in Martin Luther King Park in Five Points, Columbia SC - FREE!

The Blues Moon will feature artists from this upcoming fest on Tuesday evening, Oct. 18 (see post above this one for details). Here is the lineup:

FREE concert brought to you by the fine folks at Word of Mouth Productions (WOMP), whom we thank, with a special tip of the Blues fedora to Geoffrey Graves. WOMP is a group of hard-working volunteers who are dedicated to sharing the best possible music at no charge, whenever possible, with the public. The Columbia Blues Festival remains FREE, but please thank a volunteer or two for their hard work and support the festival by purchasing food and drink from the vendors, buying tee-shirts from the Word of Mouth Productions tent, and support the artists who entertain you by purchasing their music and wares.

We hope you enjoy the festival and we thank you for your kind and loyal support.

To help even more: send this link (the Blues Moon Blog and the promoters' links, below) to your friends who enjoy good music. Keep the publicity ball rolling... we cannot bring these events to you without great attendance. And please write a note of thanks and support to the sponsors (City of Columbia; City of Florence - for the Pee Dee Fest - and Kershaw Arts Council for the Downhome Festival in Camden just last weekend) to let them know you care about Blues as a truly American music and appreciate their continued support. We do this all for you... but we truly cannot do it without you!

And, as always, I welcome you to tune in each Tuesday (Tuesday IS Bluesday) on WUSC-FM and HD1 Columbia and streaming at http://wusc.sc.edu from 6-8 p.m. Please follow me here (become a member!) and on Facebook at Blues Moon Radio and on Twitter at bluesmoonradio. I'll keep you updated on music news without flooding your in-box. I welcome your comments and thoughts and thank you for your interest and support as well... since 1990 I have had the BEST listeners in the whole world (imho!) and I appreciate YOU. :)
